A Tribute to Freedom, Strength, and Unbreakable Will
Who Was Harriet Tubman?
Harriet Tubman was more than a conductor on the Underground Railroad—she was a revolutionary. Born into slavery in Maryland, she escaped to freedom but refused to stay safe. Instead, she risked her life time and time again, leading over 70 enslaved people to freedom through the Underground Railroad.
But her impact didn’t stop there. During the Civil War, Tubman became the first woman to lead an armed military operation in U.S. history—The Combahee River Raid—freeing over 700 enslaved people in a single night. She later became a Union spy, navigating Confederate territory undetected.
Even after the war, Tubman dedicated her life to women’s suffrage and opened the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged, providing shelter and care for elderly African Americans.
Harriet Tubman was not just a historical figure—she was a warrior, a liberator, a legend.
Why This Hoodie Matters (The Story Behind the Design)
Though we are just now releasing this design, this hoodie was the very first we ever created—the inspiration behind the birth of Davy Jones Lockers.
During Trump’s first term, we saw our history being erased—not just through the removal of Black history from schools, but through the spread of mass misinformation.
At the time, I was naïve—I thought we all knew our history, that it was passed down in our blood. But then, someone close to me—someone I looked up to—shattered that belief.
While I was educating someone on Harriet Tubman, they turned to me and said:
“You know she’s just a myth, right?”
I stood there, frozen in disbelief. A myth? One of the greatest freedom fighters in history—reduced to nothing but a legend?
I pulled out pictures, proof, her legacy in black and white. But the moment haunted me. How had we let this happen? How could I make sure her name was never forgotten?
I wrote songs, made art, and posted on social media, but nothing hit the way I wanted. Then someone at a fashion show said, “Fashion lives forever.”
That was it. Fashion sparks conversations.
Fashion makes people stop and ask questions.
Fashion keeps history alive.
And so, this hoodie was born—not just as clothing, but as a vessel to carry Harriet Tubman’s name into the future.
The Design Breakdown
Harriet Tubman Portrait
This isn’t just any image of Harriet Tubman. This was chosen for a reason.
Every time I wear it, people stop and ask: “Who is that on your hoodie?”
Look at her face—stern, strong, unshakable.
Look at her hand—gripping the armrest, stronger than the wood itself.
Look at her hood—a symbol of her ability to walk in both the shadows and the light.
This image isn’t passive—it demands recognition. It forces people to see who she was and what she stood for.
